In 1974 in humble rented premises in Alfreton, Derbyshire,
B&J Parr began recycling polythene.
Now, some 35 years later, at our state of the art factory
in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, we recycle approximately
12,000 tonnes of polythene per year. We offer a collection
service using 25ft containers, once full, we exchange for
another empty container. The scrap polythene is, upon arrival
at our Mansfield factory unloaded and blended. Any impurities
( cardboard , packaging tapes ect )are removed at this stage
.
The polythene is now shredded into pieces the size of snow
flakes before being melted down and compounded into polythene
pellet. The bulk of this pellet (now called Jazz), is a
greyish colour. This product then moves onto one of our
eight film extrusion lines, the next step towards producing
finished polythene sacks.
The most recent addition to our business is the recycling
of contruction waste, namely gas & water pipe but also items
such as redundant wheelie bins. Due to the shear size, weight
and density, these materials are very difficult to recycle
and required a substantial investment in bespoke equipment
- which now allows us to recycle up to 4,000 tonnes per
year. We have the facility to remove metals from any fittings
which are moulded into pipes during manufacture. Once the
waste products have been recycled into pellet form, they
are ready to be blended and extruded back into construction
materials .
B & J Parr are consistently investing in the recycling
of construction and engineering polymers ie; propylene,
styrene, nylon, a.b.s. , Pe, pet. Acetal.
